![]() ![]() It would be a shame if this catalog of games were to fade away, just because there would be no contemporary hardware on which they could be played. There are so many great PSP and Vita games. For Sony to bring any of these titles, or PS3 titles as well, to PS4 or PS5, they would have to hire developers and come up with a full software emulation program for them. Consumers will be happy to carry over their old games without having to repurchase them, which in turn should give them confidence to buy more games, knowing that they can be played for many years ahead, Publishers and developers would also be happy, because they can continue to sell the great games that they've already created, instead of having to reprogram the game every few years (which takes time, money, and resources). It’s why only certain games ever made it into the PS Store on PS3: some PS1/2 games didn’t work correctly using Sony’s partial software emulation, so those are not sold in the PS Store. I've said for several years now that they should allow these games to be sold and played on PS4, because it would please consumers, developers, and publishers. Even though it should be feasible from a technical perspective, I have doubts that Sony will actually go through with it, since they never bothered to bring over PS1 games, or the downloadable PS2 games that were sold on PS3. There shouldn't be many technical challenges, aside from Vita games that rely on certain hardware features like the touch screen, rear touch panel, or cameras. I'd like to see my previously purchased PSP and Vita games (at least the digital downloads) playable on PS4.
